SHIPLOGIX AUTOMATED TRANSPORTATION MANAGEMENT SYSTEM
NETS RETAIL GIANT 20% SAVINGS DURING
FIRST YEAR
Even Mother Nature can't slow things down.
Feb 17th, 2006 - SEATTLE, Wa. www.shiplogix.com
- ShipLogix, a provider of web-hosted Transportation Management
Systems for shippers, carriers and their business partners, has
something to brag about this winter. The ShipLogix Transportation
Execution Platform (STEP) enabled one of the nation's premier retail
distributors to realize a 20% reduction in freight expenditures
since its deployment one year ago.
STEP automates the full shipment lifecycle, beginning with the release of purchase orders by vendors
for shipment. The system then optimizes these orders, creates an executable shipping plan, and
initiates a cascade tendering process which automatically assigns the lowest cost carrier to the
shipment. Status updates, shipment rating, and freight settlement complete the process. Prior to the
deployment of STEP, the retailer, whose security requirements prohibit the use of their name,
controlled the freight decision of hundreds of suppliers through a static routing guide. They needed
a way to automate their inbound transportation and institute a dynamic way to determine the best
routes, because their existing processes resulted in higher freight costs. The retailer's suppliers
needed a system that could always find the lowest cost shipping options that met inventory deadlines.
The solution was ShipLogix.
Neither rain, nor sleet, nor snow - or in this case, an ice storm - can impact ShipLogix's ability
to deliver automated solutions that operate in the most difficult of times. The retailer had to
close their head office due to a severe ice storm in the Midwest, but saw no interruption in their
Transportation Management System - or their continued savings.
"STEP is a rapidly-deployed way to achieve enormous cost reductions,"
said Alan Van Boven, chief executive officer of ShipLogix. "The
retailer already has plans in place to roll out additional features
of STEP in 2006. During this next year, they project freight cost
reductions to rise above 30% of pre-STEP expenditures."
Since the retailer's implementation of STEP, a significant reduction in freight expenditures from
automation and optimization has been underscored by the improvements in transportation workflow.
These freight savings opportunities will grow by the addition of outbound shipment management which
gives the client an enterprise view of their complete supply chain for the optimum utilization of
their private fleet along with common carriers. The client's optimization technology will be
expanded to include pooling which facilitates a greater savings potential from optimization
processes. The client also plans to accomplish integration of STEP with a major retail solutions
provider to gain more advanced supply chain planning capacity, and add financial and workforce
management capability.
